Translations from German into English

Before coming to the Switzerland, I lived, worked, and studied in Germany where German, of course, is written and spoken. It was here in Switzerland, however, that I began my formal work of translating German texts into English by translating Swiss patents written in German into English for patent application in the United States. English is my native language. German is my second language.

For any of my clients, the benefit of doing a translation from German into English with me allows them to communicate documents, texts, and information that are written in German now to persons who do not read or understand German.

I have thus been able to help many clients reach international audiences, customers, and business partners by providing them with high-quality and natural-sounding English German-to-English translations that are written correctly and that communicate effectively. I carry out all commissions personally. See References.

An effective translation of a client's German text into English involves expressing the real meaning given in the German text, not just translating the words, one by one. Sometimes, however, translations done by inexperienced persons or by a machine just translates the words. Such translations can sound unnatural and awkward, of course, and can create negative impressions or even lead to misunderstandings. 

The fee charged for translating a German text into English is reasonable and depends on several factors, incl. the content of the text, the vocabulary used (specialized, technical, non-technical, general, etc.), the total length of the text, the format in which the text is sent to us, the desired delivery time, etc. The fee usually ranges from CHF 2.30 to CHF 4.40 per standard line (55 characters plus spaces). My computer automatically counts the exact number of characters and spaces in any German text sent to me in a Microsoft WORD document. The minimum fee for translating is CHF 100.
